Visionary Sons

Our mission is to encourage, exhort and equip men who are devoted to seeking the Lord with their whole hearts.
“‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.’” (Jeremiah 29:11-13)
You also may have a vision or a dream. It might even be admirable, like “full-time Christian ministry” (which, by the way, is anything and everything we do in God’s will). However, God wants us to give Him total control of everything, and I knew that meant everything. So, through a gradual process I began to prayerfully dedicate each part of my heart to Him, such as what He wants me to do in life, where He wants me to go, who He wants me to minister to, who He may want me to marry, how He wants me to raise a family, etc.
After reading the book They Found the Secret (listed here on this site), I recognized what had taken place. When I noticed the “golden thread” running through the life of each individual in this book, I realized that I, too, had found the secret—the secret of the exchanged life. Since asking the Lord to take control, He has blessed me with His joy, freedom and abundant life. God desires us all to be fulfilled in Him. The question is, do we want it, and what are we willing to give up to receive it?
It’s hard to surrender, I know! But, God wants what’s best for us, and it’s only wise to allow Him to do His will according to Hebrews 13:20-21. We should grant Him full access to our hearts out of love for Him, because He first loved us. This is the exchange God speaks of in Ezekiel 11:19-20. This is the key to being a man who is real.
Scripture says, “Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He will do it.” (Psalm 37:4-5). This means that as we abide in Christ and are content in the Lord, He will put His desires in our heart and fulfill them as we dedicate ourselves to Him. How exciting is that! He created us, loves us and provided us with eternal salvation. How can we afford to not trust Him with our life?
When we surrender our lives to the Lord, we begin a lifelong journey of seeking after Him. Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” We are to pursue what Jesus specified as the greatest and foremost commandment in Mark 12:30-31: “‘And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.’”
To this day, it still thrills me to hear the sound of fighter pilot radio chatter like, “Target acquired, we have a missile lock. Weapons armed. Fox one…fox two! Sidewinders away. Confirmed, target destroyed.” Sometimes I even still dream about the possibility of a quick ride one day. But, for me, I knew that I had to at least be willing to give up a career in the USAF in order to be completely available for God to accomplish His will in my life for His glory. Now, I wouldn’t want it any other way!
Once I came to the point where I was willing to be totally yielded to God’s Spirit, the Lord began to give me a vision for something even more thrilling and prestigious than being a fighter pilot. For example, He has given me the desire to seek Him with all my heart, to raise a Godly family and to disciple others.
Like you, I struggle to be in the world but not of the world. We must surrender daily, and even throughout the day, by yielding to God’s Spirit and asking Him to take control. By no means have I found all the answers, but I have discovered several key resources containing truth that have been instrumental in my life, and perhaps they can be for you as well.
Maybe you have a desire to live in light of eternity, or maybe you are wondering if it’s even worth it. May I exhort you to search your heart and consider the blessing of living as an authentic man with a Godly vision?
Visionary Sons was born out of a desire to assist men in their walk with the Lord—genuine and transparent men who are open and honest before the Lord and each other. Whatever your age, we are all sons aspiring to real manhood. We are called to be sons in whom the Lord is well pleased, just as God the Father acknowledged Jesus in Matthew 17:5: “…‘This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!’”
My prayer is that we would allow the Spirit of God, through His Word, the Scriptures, to change us to become more like Christ. By applying on a daily basis the truths and disciplines referred to here, I believe we can become real men with Godly vision. As a fellow journeyman, I invite you to come along with us as we seek the Lord together with all our hearts!
Alive in Christ,
Dan Schutte
