REWARDING MINISTRY | Courageous Evangelism

Do you hesitate, shy away or clam up when it comes to telling others about Jesus and how they can know Him?  Hey, you’re not alone!  Even the apostle Paul asked for continual prayer:  “...and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the Gospel….” (Ephesians 6:19).  Along with the power of God’s Spirit in us and prayer without ceasing, we need to do our part to make sure we are ready and available to “make known with boldness the mystery of the Gospel.”

We should not be ashamed of the Gospelfor it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” according to Romans 1:16.  While we need to be prepared to make a defense to everyone who asks us to give an account for the hope that is in us (1 Peter 3:15), it’s only by God’s Spirit that people are led to salvation, because no one comes to Christ unless the Father draws him according to John 6:44.   We can have assurance that God is with us (Matthew 28:20), and confidence that His Word will not return without results (Isaiah 55:11).  Furthermore, we can boldly say with the Apostle Paul in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”  Our responsibility is simply to be obedient and sensitive to the Lord’s leading in preaching the Gospel as Jesus commanded in Matthew 28:18-20.

Often we will have the opportunity to use words in dialogue when sharing the Gospel.  However, we also share through our testimony.  2 Corinthians 3:2 says, “You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all men; being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.”  So, “Preach the Gospel at all times.  If necessary, use words.”

When you’re in a conversation with someone, you can refer to key Biblical principles outlined in the synopsis below.

Gospel in a Nutshell

God is our Creator and the ultimate authority (Genesis 1:1).
All have sinned and are in need of a Savior (Romans 3:23).
Everyone deserves death, but we have been given the gift of life (Romans 6:23).
Jesus Christ is the only qualified substitute as our Savior (John 14:6).
Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved (Acts 2:21).
We can know for sure that we have eternal life (1 John 5:12-13).

“Although I am confident in my conversion, I am not an evangelist by nature.  This book has caused me to examine the teachings of the church, evaluate the conversion of my loved one, and inspired me to win souls.” – Anonymous Reviewer

Synopsis

The Way of the Master is the flagship work of Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron's organization.  It anchors their television program, radio program, and website.  Considered by many to be the definitive text in evangelism, this book came to Bridge-Logos to be updated, expanded, and illustrated with photographs for Spring 2006 release.  It's anecdotal, loaded with commentary and remarks that are more conversational than academic.  It's an easy read with a hard message that has already changed the face of sharing faith.
